Wizz Air to launch six new routes from Luton, starting from next month

Wizz Air is to launch new routes from Luton to Corfu, Heraklion, Rhodes, Zakynthos. Faro and Marrakesh, starting from mid-June.

First to launch will be a four-times-a-week service from Luton to Faro in Portugal, starting on June 16. This will be followed by a twice weekly service to Zakynthos, starting on July 1, three flights a week to Heraklion on July 2, a twice weekly service to Corfu on July 3 and two flights a week to Rhodes on July 4.

Its new Marrakech service, which will operate four times a week, isn't due to start until October 25.

The news of the additional flights comes just days after Wizz re-launched 15 routes from Luton to destinations including Spain and Portugal, even though the majority of passengers who'd booked seats before the lockdown will be unable to fly during the lockdown.

Wizz said its flights are being operated with extra hygiene measures to ensure the health and safety of passengers and crew.

Both cabin crew and passengers are required to wear facemask and crew will ear gloves.

The airline said its planes are regularly put through a fogging process with an antiviral solution and all planes are disinfeted overnight with the same antirvial solution.

Sanitising wipes are handed out to passengers on boarding, onboard magazines have been removed and passengers are encouraged to use contactless payment for onboard purchases.

Passengers are requested to follow physical distancing measures and are encouraged to make all purchases, such check in baggage and fast track, prior to the flight online  to minimize physical contact at the airport.

Wizz Air UK MD Owain Jones said: "Although travel is currently restricted by government regulations, we are planning for the easing of restrictions as the situation improves and our customers are able to start travelling again.

"The Wizz team is excited that our network from London Luton will continue to grow to include many new summer and winter sun destinations and our new sanitizing protocols will give our customers the confidence that they can safely rely on Wizz Air's ultra-low-cost fares to visit these new and exciting destinations on-board Europe's greenest fleet.

"As always, our primary concern is the health, safety and well-being of our passengers and crew, and our enhanced protective measures will ensure the most sanitary conditions possible."
