Travelopia slashes around 100 jobs as brands consolidated

Travelopia has confirmed that it is getting rid of its long-established brand Austravel and switching Hayes & Jarvis to a direct-sell only operation in a move that will lead to the loss of about 100 jobs.

TravelMole reported yesterday that the company was consolidating its tailormade portfolio, which also includes Sovereign and Citalia.

Erin Johnson, marketing director for Travelopia's tailormade portfolio said the company was consolidating it products in preparation for a recovery of the UK travel market.

From June 1, Hayes & Jarvis will be run by Enchanting Travels, a direct-sell operator bought by Travelopia last year, which is already established in the North America, Australia and German markets.

Johnson said: "They have modern, proprietary technology designed to tailor complex holidays to over 50 destinations.

The partnering of Hayes & Jarvis' established brand with Enchanting Travels' 15 years' experience in high end experiential travel and unique technology, marks a new and exciting step in our strategic development of the Tailormade collection."

She said the Australasia product will also be consolidated into Hayes & Jarvis.

All existing customers' bookings and those with Refund Credit notes, including through the trade, are continuing to be served by the UK Sales and Ops teams for H&J and Austravel, she said. Head of trade partnerships Simon Garrido and trade partnerships manager Kevin Gaddes will continue with the business with no change.
