After new Covid-19 cluster, Wuham to test entire 11 million population

The supposed birthplace of coronavirus plans to start afresh and test every single resident after a new wave off infections.

The ambitious testing regime will see millions of residents tested within 10 days.

According to local media each district health commission has been tasked with developing a plan to test all their residents with a focus on the elderly and in more densely populated districts.

It will likely mean the city comes to a standstill not long after reopening from a weeks-long lockdown.

The government is taking no chances after six new cases were found in the same residential building.

They are the first fresh cases in the city in more than a month.

The city of Wuhan was effectively cut off from the rest of the country for nearly three months, while the surrounding Hubei province was in lockdown for two months.

The Global Times newspaper reports that three to five million city residents had already been tested, citing a scientist at Wuhan University.
