United names new president

Brett J. Hart becomes United Airlines' new president from next week.

He was named to succeed Scott Kirby, who takes over as new CEO, replacing Oscar Munoz.

Munoz becomes executive chair following the airline's annual shareholders meeting.

Hart is currently EVP and chief administrative officer, and has been at United for a decade.

"The leadership Brett has shown as we have managed the current crisis reinforces the conclusion I reached last year: Brett is exactly the leader that United needs right now," said Kirby.

In the role of president Hart will continue to lead the government affairs, corporate communications, legal and community engagement teams.

He will also oversee the corporate real estate team and handle United's environmental sustainability programs.

The position of chief administrative officer will be discontinued.

Before joining United Hart worked in a number of varied roles, including special assistant to the general counsel at the U.S. Department of Treasury in Washington, D.C, and general counsel and corporate secretary at Sara Lee Corporation.
