Kane Pirie says 14-day quarantine plan will be 'dropped within weeks'

VIVID Travel managing director Kane Pirie has added his voice to criticism of the government's plan to introduce 14 days of quarantine for people entering the UK, saying the idea will be 'dropped within weeks'.

Pirie, who is also founder of campaign group Right To Refund, said: "Enforcement is wholly impractical."

He added: "The government has not missed a trick yet to make things worse for the travel industry.

"As the world emerges from Covid-19 the UK will create a legal no-man's land: it is safe enough for you to go out,  but not safe enough for you to come back without quarantine.

"It is the kind of ludicrous ill-judged fudge you might expect at the start of a crisis but not forgive at the end. In any case, it does not really matter what Government says now. Have they not noticed lockdown has crumbled?

"If the Government can't even make a few hundred travel companies follow the law on refunds or keep its own advisors from day-tripping to Barnard Castle, there is not a chance in hell of them policing millions of returning holidaymakers.

"This nightmarish idea, fortunately, is a daft daydream that simply cannot be realised.  It will be dropped within a few weeks."

VIVID Travel is one of the 200 travel companies that have written to the Home Office asking for the quarantine measures to be reconsidered.
