Qatar Airways appoints new sales chief for Europe

Qatar Airways has appointed Thierry de Bailleul as vice president sales for Europe.

He spent many years at Air France-KLM before joining Emirates in 2013 as managing director in France.

Based in the airline's regional offices in London, he will be responsible for steering sales operations for Qatar Airways across 30 markets.

Qatar Airways chief commercial officer Simon Talling Smith said: "We are thrilled to welcome Thierry to the Qatar Airways team, and excited about the depth of knowledge he brings from many years in the travel and aviation sector. He joins the company at a particularly significant period, as we start to rebuild from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Thierry's extensive experience of helping to drive sales across different regions with different brands will contribute to the recovery process, and the continued growth of our airline across Europe."

The airline said new independent data from the International Air Transport Association reaffirms Qatar Airways as the airline that 'worked diligently to take people home safely and reliably during this crisis'.

According to IATA figures, Qatar Airways' flew over 1.3 billion revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) during the month of April, accounting for 17.8% of the global market, over triple its nearest competitor and more than the next four airlines combined.

"These measures have further enhanced trust in the airlines reputation for reliability among trade partners across Europe, having maintained more global connections out of Europe than any other operator," it said.
