Southwest Airlines adds Santa Barbara, Fresno to California network

Southwest Airlines is adding two new California cities to its route network.

It will launch flights in the second quarter of 2021 to Santa Barbara Airport and Fresno Yosemite International Airport.

When flights begin, Southwest will serve 13 destinations in the Golden State.

The airline hasn't disclosed routes for the two new cities or an exact start date.

"Our arrival in the heart of California, both on the Central Coast and in the Central Valley, will round out nearly four decades of investment in our California customers and communities," said Southwest Airlines Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Watterson.

Southwest is already one of the dominant players in California and recently announced the addition of Palm Springs, CA to its network.

Despite the pandemic Southwest has announced a dozen new destinations in recent months including Sarasota in Florida, Jackson, Miss. and Colorado Springs.
