Sydney Covid cases prompt tougher WA border restrictions

Western Australia is warning it may close its border again for travellers from New South Wales.

Arrivals from Sydney are now required to take a Covid-19 test, and quarantine until they receive a negative result.

The rule change comes after a cluster of 17 positive cases were found in Northern Sydney, and WA Premier is not ruling out closing the border again.

A decision will be made when more details are known on how widespread the outbreak is.

"The State Government is taking immediate steps under its controlled border arrangement to further protect WA.  I understand these changes will cause some frustration and uncertainty for some people," said WA Premier Mark McGowan.

"Anyone arriving directly from Sydney Airport or from another Australian airport having been in NSW from this point forward must take a Covid-19 test, either at Perth Airport on arrival, or at another clinic within 24 hours."

McGowan warned Western Australians considering travel to NSW that 'a hard border might be put up.'

The changes come not even a week after WA re-opened its hard borders to NSW.
