ACCC re-authorises Qantas-American transpacific alliance

Australia's competition regulator has given final approval for a transpacific joint business alliance between Qantas and American Airlines. It covers routes between Australia and New Zealand and the US, Canada and Mexico.

The ACCC says the public benefits from the alliance will likely continue although it acknowledges they will be limited due to the depressed air travel market because of Covid-related border restrictions.

Under the alliance the two airlines are able to coordinate various functions, such as sales and marketing, scheduling, yield and inventory management, and frequent flyer programs.
