American Airlines' regional carrier gets FAA safety warning

America Airlines' regional carrier Envoy Air received a FAA warning for an incident described as a 'potentially catastrophic situation.'

Pilots lined up to land on the wrong runway and managed to abort the approach at the last minute.

According to a FAA report, there was 'high probability' the plane would not have had enough runway to stop.

It was one incident of several in the past two years which showed 'consistent evidence of potential lack of airmanship' CNN reported.

FAA Administrator Steve Dickson told CNN the report into Envoy Air is 'based on data that we have been able to glean by working with the operator to identify where there might be areas of emerging risk that they need to focus on.'

The airline flies hundreds of daily flights for the American Eagle regional brand.

"If issues are raised -- either internally by our team or by the FAA -- we work to address them immediately," Envoy Air said.
