Rules flouted on SpiceJet flight during 'in-flight wedding'

The flight crew of a Spicejet flight have been suspended from duty after a video of an in-flight wedding went viral for the wrong reasons.

It showed a packed plane of revellers celebrating the nuptials of a couple, with many mask-less.

The plane was chartered through a travel agency for a two-hour flight to nowhere journey.

The airline said all passengers produced negative Covid tests before the flight and the organiser of the trip was briefed on requirements and 'denied permission for any mid-air activity.'

"The agent and the guest passengers were briefed in detail, both in writing as well as verbally, on social distancing and safety norms to be followed as per Covid guidelines both at the airport and on board the aircraft throughout the journey."

SpiceJet said the passengers would not follow the instructions of cabin crew despite repeated requests.

"The airline is taking appropriate action as per rules," SpiceJet said.
