Alliance Airlines makes staff vaccinations compulsory

Brisbane-based Alliance Airlines will mandate vaccinations for all its workers.

It is the first Aussie airline to make it compulsory and those rejecting it could face 'disciplinary action' it says.

A refusal without valid legal or medical grounds will lead to action by the company, it says.

The rule includes third party contractors working for Alliance Airlines.

The airline itself is a contractor for Virgin Australia and Qantas, operating regional services.

It also operates fly-in-fly-out services and charter flights.

"Right throughout the industry, there's a big move towards people being vaccinated. All the senior management and directors have been vaccinated, and we believe the way forward is for all of us to be vaccinated," said Alliance Airlines Managing Director Scott McMillan.

Australia lags in its vaccination drive, with less than 3% of the population fully vaccinated so far.
