Portugal now accepting lateral flow tests

Travellers to Portugal from the UK, EU and Schengen countries no longer need to take a mandatory PCR test to enter the country, Algarve Tourism has announced.

Portugal will now accept visitors that have tested negative for Covid with the less expensive lateral flow test.

Joao Fernandes from Algarve Tourism said "This will significantly lower the cost of travelling to the Algarve. In the meantime, we continue to implement strict social distancing measures and health and safety operating procedures."

The change was ratified by the Council of Ministers last week.

Portugal remains on the UK's amber list for travel, after being downgraded from green recently.

The UK government's next review of the traffic light system will take place later this month.
