American Airlines, Virgin Atlantic place air taxi orders

American Airlines plans to make a large order for flying taxis. It agreed to pre-order up to 250 aircraft, with an option for an additional 100 aircraft. It is buying the aircraft from UK based Vertical Aerospace Group which plans to produce the carbon-free eVTOL VA-X4 four-passenger aircraft which has a flying range of about 100 miles.

It will be able to travel at speeds of over 200 miles per hour. Vertical Aerospace Group has received order interest for about 1,000 aircraft from lessor Avolon, Virgin Atlantic and other companies.
