Taj Mahal reopens as India eases Covid restrictions

India's iconic landmark the Taj Mahal reopened to the public after a months-long closure. The number of visitors allowed in at any one time is capped at only 650, which is only a fraction of the average 20,000 a day it attracted before Covid.

Although India has moved on from the dark days of 400,000-plus daily infections it is still recording about 60,000 new cases a day. Health experts have said they think it is still too early to dial back strict lockdown measures for fear of a resurgence of Covid infections while the public health sytem is still under strain.
