Garuda hit with temporary flight ban to Hong Kong

Hong Kong imposed a temporary ban on Indonesia flag carrier Garuda for carrying four passengers who turned out to be Covid positive following on arrival testing.

Under its existing rule the airline is banned from flying the route until 5 July, according to the Hong Kong Center for Health Protection.

Garuda said all passengers went through strict checking of Covid test documentation and all were cleared as negative and genuine.

Hong Kong has taken a tough line against airlines that bring in passengers that test positive and has imposed numerous temporary bans on airlines, with some carriers receiving multiple bans.

The length of any ban is subject to the number of passengers who test positive on a single flight.

The Hong Kong government has also said it plans to ban all flights originating from Indonesia due to the surhging cases of Covid infections which are at thier highest levels for months.
