ATOL warns consumers to check financial protection before booking holidays

With holiday destinations re-opening as Covid-19 restrictions begin to ease, consumers are being urged to check that their bookings are financially protected.

UK Civil Aviation Authority and ATOL are reminding consumers and providing tips for travellers' peace of mind.

Firstly, it advises to book an ATOL protected package holiday and book on a credit card where possible for Section 75 protection under the Consumer Credit Act.

Consumers should keep up to date with UK Government travel advice and follow the advice when returning, as well as follow the rules and requirements for entry to the destination

Another key safeguard is to take out travel insurance as soon as possible after making a booking.

"As Covid-19 restrictions are eased, even more destinations will be opening up. We expect to see an increase in bookings, and it is vital - now more than ever - that consumers make sure they are financially protected when travelling," said Andy Cohen, Head of ATOL

"If you're booking a package holiday, check that your travel provider is financially protected by ATOL for ultimate peace of mind over your money."
