UK urged to review India's red list status

India's Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla is urging UK officials to reconsider the de facto travel ban on visitors from India.

He claims Mumbai and Delhi are 'practically free of Covid.'

Shringla was in the UK for a two-day visit to discuss matters with the UK Foreign Office.

"Mumbai, Delhi are practically free of Covid. we can't rest on that situation because we are constantly vigilant, telling our citizens to take precautions so that we don't have a third wave," Shringla said.

"I pointed out that France had cleared visitors from India without quarantine, if they are double vaccinated and have a negative test. The US has upgraded India in the travel scheme. I encouraged the UK to do the same," he told India media.

India is on the UK's travel red list which effectively bans visitors from India, as they have to undergo a mandatory 10-day hotel quarantine.
