Brits vaccinated abroad could soon avoid quarantine

The government is expected to ease rules for British expats who received their vaccination overseas.

A change in current rules is expected to come in next month.  At present only UK administered vaccinations are recognised in order to avoid self-isolating  for green and amber countries.

Those who have been vaccinated overseas may be able to register their vaccination status with a local doctor.

Rules will likely be updated when a formal review of the travel rules is conducted this week.

However it won't necessarily recognise vaccines from all countries.

The government is reportedly about to agree reciprocal arrangements on quarantine-free travel with more than 30 countries.

This includes much of Europe and several Caribbean nations.

"By the end of this month, UK nationals who have been vaccinated overseas will be able to talk to their GP, go through what vaccine they have had, and have it registered with the NHS that they have been vaccinated," said Vaccines Minister Nadhim Zahawi.

"The reason for the conversation with the GP is to make sure that whatever vaccine they have had is approved in the UK. Ultimately, there will be co-ordination between the World Health Organisation, ourselves, the European regulator, the US regulator and other regulators around the world."

Vaccinated UK nationals coming back direct from a red list country will still need to quarantine.
