Brisbane lifts lockdown

Brisbane has lifted its lockdown after just eight days under stay-at-home orders while tight restrictions will continue in Sydney.

It is a contrasting tale of two cities with Deputy Queensland Premier Steven Miles saying the region had achieved 'something quite incredible' in complying with the rules.

That is not the case in Sydney. NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian urged Sydney residents to get vaccinated as 262 new cases were recorded in the state, taking the total to more than 5,000 cases in the past two months.
