Air India Express offers final compensation for Kozhikode Airport crash

One year after the deadly crash, Air India Express has made final compensation offers to passengers and next of kin in the Kozhikode Airport accident.

The airline says compensation awards have been offered to all injured passengers and the families of the 19 who died.

The airline said 80 out of the 165 passengers have accepted the offers.

It is awaiting acceptance of the remaining passengers and said no offers have been formally rejected and no legal action has been filed, an airline spokesperson said.

Interim compensation awards of about $14,,000 were paid out in September 2020.

The plane overshot a table top runway in bad weather and fell 35 feet into a valley before breaking up.

Both pilots were among those killed.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Board has yet to release its accident report.
