Singapore travel agent jailed for scamming customers

An unlicensed Singapore travel agent has been jailed for five months for scamming customers.

S. Leelavadi, aged 55, was convicted of working without a license and misappropriating almost S$35,000 from clients who paid for trips and tour packages that never materialised.

She scammed at least eight customers for trips mostly to India and the UAE.

Leelavadi had been an unlicensed freelance travel agent for a decade.

She had earlier pleaded guilty to one criminal breach of trust charge and two counts of practising as a travel agent without a licence.

The offences took place between 2013 and 2017.

Leelavadi plans to appeal the sentence.
