AirAsia launches ride hailing service

Budget airline group AirAsia has unveiled its new Uber-style ride hailing service.

It launched e-hailing service AirAsia Ride in Malaysia.

It will offer service in the Klang Valley region encompassing Kuala Lumpur before expanding nationally.

The company says it hopes to expand internationally across the ASEAN region to Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

"The response from drivers (in Malaysia) has been tremendous and people are looking forward to the service," said Group CEO Tony Fernandes at the launch of AirAsia Ride.

Bookings can be made through the AirAsia super app, and riders may choose their preferred vehicle type.

According to AirAsia Ride Malaysia CEO Lim Chiew Shan, about 1,500 drivers have registered and it expects 5,000 more to sign up over the next six months ahead of its expansion nationwide.
