'Staggering' tourism losses after Hawaii Gov's plea to stay away

Hawaii tourism officials have seen a 'staggering' decline in tourist arrivals since the Governor pleaded with travelers to stay away. Trade groups including the Maui Hotel and Lodging Association have cited a slump n bookings equating to millions of dollars. Maui County alone has seen a decline of more than 50,000 room nights.

Travel businesses are also warning of another round of layoffs. Losses are 'staggering' says Mufi Hannemann, President and CEO of the Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association.
