American Airlines debuts Dreamliner

American Airlines launches its 787 Dreamliner service today ahead of regular international 787 service next month.

Dreamliner flights start on the Dallas/Ft. Worth-Chicago O'Hare route as a test run before being deployed from DFW to Beijing, said AA spokesman Matt Miller.

"The purpose is to ensure that our crews and our airport teams are familiar with the airplane and new procedures we have in place and all of those types of things," Miller said.

American's Beijing flights from Dallas commence on June 2.

American also announced it has implemented a FAA issued directive to limit the number of consecutive operational days due to a recently discovered flaw related to the plans' electrical power.

Plane maker Boeing found Dreamliners could lose all AC electrical power after being continuously powered for 248 days or more.

"American's maintenance program for the 787 will ensure that the aircraft will be completely powered down every 120 days until a software upgrade is developed and released by Boeing," the carrier said.

American has firm orders for 42 Dreamliners and has take delivery of the first four.

They are the most advanced commercial jets on the market with unique interior design features such as forward and rear facing seats and color-changing mood lighting.
