TSA agent arrested at Denver Airport over child sex assaults

A TSA screening agent was arrested while working at Denver International Airport and is facing multiple counts of sexual assault on one or more children.

Matthew Paul Barnett, 33, of Thornton, was detained and was then fired by the federal agency.

There was no impact to normal TSA screening operations at the airport.

According to the Adams County district attorney's office, Barnett is facing a total of 12 felony charges including sexual assault on a child, and sexual assault on a child as a pattern of abuse.

The charges relate to his involvement with three young girls, the DA's office said.

"TSA does not tolerate illegal, unethical or immoral conduct. This individual is no longer employed by TSA," the agency said in a statement.

The charges will be put to Barnett later this week when he is due to make a first appearance in Adams County Court.
