Boyband singer collapses after wearing 12 layers of clothing on easyJet flight

A boyband singer collapsed with heat exhaustion on an EasyJet flight after wearing 12 layers of clothes to avoid excess luggage fees.

James McElvar, a singer with Scottish band Rewind, thought he was having a heart attack when he lost consciousness while flying from London to Glasgow.

But it was heat exhaustion caused by wearing six t-shirts, four jumpers, two jackets, three pairs of jeans, two pairs of jogging bottoms, and two hats.

He began feeling sick and light-headed on board the flight before being violently sick and passing out.

The 19 year-old had been told at Stansted that he was carrying too much luggage and was facing a £45 excess baggage charge.

He opted to wear all the clothes rather than pay the charge.

EasyJet confirmed that he was given the option to check in an extra bag at a cost.

A spokesperson told the Daily Mail: "In this instance the passenger had two items of cabin baggage which he could not combine into the allocated bag allowance and as such he was asked to either combine his baggage into one bag or pay £45 to check the bag into the hold."
