Air India offering three-day working week

In a bid to further reduce payroll costs, Air India is offering a voluntary 'shorter working week scheme' for thousands of workers.

Permanent employees, not including pilots or cabin crew members, may wokr for three days a week for 60% of their current salary.

The scheme is applicable with immediate effect.

Employees may go on the three-day working week for up to a year.

However, those that opt to take it may not work elsewhere on their days off.

The airline says it has the right to bring back employees onto a full time basis based on the needs of the business.

After grounding all non-repatriation flights for more than two months, the flag carrier still desperately needs to cut costs.

Domestic services restarted last month but international flights have yet to resume.
