Hotels going to dogs…large ones

A new emerging niche market for US hotels is large pets, says a new Web site.

“Nearly 48% of travelers with pets travel with pets over 31 pounds, while 34% of those travel with dogs over 50 pounds,” said

“Hotels are quickly realizing this untapped market and are adjusting weight limits to coincide with the growing market for large dog accommodations,” the site added.

Along with detailed information about pet policies and weight restrictions, the site includes dog amenities.

Said spokesman Steve Davis:

“Anyone with a big dog knows how hard it is to find a pet friendly place to stay that doesn’t just allow your dog, but actually welcomes your dog. We’re trying to simplify things for travelers.”

Westin hotels are very accommodating to pets, they welcomed my 50lb whippet! He had his own heavenly bed and goody bag.
