New York City: record-high visitors two years in a row

New York City posted record numbers of visitors in 2006 for the second year in a row, figures show.

That means the city is showing no permanent drop-off in visitors since 9-11 seriously slowed tourist visits.

An all-time high 42.6 million people visited New York City in 2005. But that figure was up nearly 1.5 million in 2006, according to estimates.

International visitation numbers are also up.

Projections planed the number of international visitors last year at a record-breaking seven million, which exceeded the next best year, which was 2000.
