Planeta ITBW Award for Reisepavilion

Final votes by 19 February

The Planeta Indigenous Tourism and Biodiversity Website Award is to be presented at the 20th annual Reisepavilion in Berlin this April.

The 2010 ITBWAward is organized with the support of the Heidehof Foundation and is presented to an indigenous tourism operation which has a website that promotes sustainable practices and educates visitors on cultural protocols and biodiversity conservation.

The award is a collaborative effort between Planeta.com and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity to showcase best practices in web-based technologies helping indigenous people manage tourism in a biodiversity-friendly way.

The Reisepavilion congress (from 22-25 April) is planned to include a launch at the German Federal Press Office on 22 April 2010, involving prominent guests from tourism and politics, and an examination and discussion of tourism issues in the light of current political processes and ecological challenges (climate change, World Natural Heritage sites, and education for sustainable development).

Said Anke Biedenkapp in presenting the new Reisepavillon concept "We"re creating something quite new: an attractive setting for networking by diverse stakeholders and at the same time the best possible publicity. We"ll still, in our content and organisation, be both informative and innovative, and help all those involved to put the results of their theoretical work into practice,"
End users looking for sustainable travel will find it in the "Green Area" at every travel fair today - Reisepavillon has had many "children": ITB in Berlin, CMT in Stuttgart, f.re.e. in Munich or the Ferienmesse in Vienna ... any specialist fair nowadays makes an effort to meet the demand for environmentally and socially responsible travel."

"Sustainable tourism operators expanded out of the "eco niche market" long ago; over the years it"s become increasingly important for them to present themselves in a "conventional" setting and thus reach client groups that don"t automatically belong to the eco scene. With Reisepavillon we"ve eased their way, and traditional travel operators are today offering serious environmentally friendly holidays - this is also partly our doing"
