Does the Costa name have to go?

Since the Concordia disaster in January and, more recently, the fire on board the Allegra, there has been much speculation and debate about whether Carnival Cruise Lines will be forced to drop the Costa Cruises brand.

In order to find out what the travel industry thinks, we ran a TravelMole poll which asked: "Do you think the Costa name will have to be dropped after the issues this year?"

This is the result:

Yes 70%
No 30%

* Do you agree with the 70% of TravelMole subscribers who believe the name has to go? If so, why?

* Do you disagree? If so, why?

  • Name Change

Yes, I believe a name change, along with complete rebranding would do the job. Remember ValueJet? After a fatl crash into the Florida Everglades, the airline was renamed AirTran. Same jets, same crews... Now AirTran is merged into Southwest.

  • Changing Costa Name

I dont really think changing the name would make a difference, after what is in a name change, Costa will still have the same officers and staff, so unless all the staff were changed Costa itself would remain the same. We have cruised many times, (although not with Costa)unfortunatley these things can happen at sea. The main thing is to make sure that all the Officers and Crew are fully trained to handle such emergencies.

  • No way back

It is the end of the Costa name, there is no way back. The name will always be associated with the Concordia disaster.

  • What a Costa?

Clearly the name must go, but we shall miss the jokes in the vein of Costa-packet....and worse.

  • What's In a Name?

Will people forget if they change their name? It would have to be a total rebrand. New name, ship colours, safety measures that have been awarded standards in excellence. James - Puregenie.com (Digital Recruitment)
