Storm causes travel chaos

Flight, ferry and train services have all been severely disrupted following the overnight storm that has hit the UK.

Heathrow cancelled 130 flights and there have been severe delays at other airports.

The major problems are on the railways, with majority of train operators in the south cancelling trains before 9am.

East Coast Trains has urged passengers not to travel, while First Capital Connect has said there will be no services until further notice.

Many people planning to use the Gatwick Express had to find alternative routes this morning as trains were cancelled.

Passengers have been warned to check the status of their travel with their airline.

The Guild of Travel Management Companies (GTMC) cancelled its autumn domestic conference today.

A spokesman said: "The decision was made about 5pm yesterday. It will be rescheduled at a date to be confirmed."
