Greek taxi strike hits cruise holidays

Cruise holidays in Greece have been disrupted due to a port blockade by striking taxi drivers.

The blockade has stopped hundreds of cruise passengers from boarding buses waiting for them on Corfu and at Heraklion port in Crete.

According to the BBC, the action has also disrupted road traffic at airports in Heraklion and the capital Athens, although flights are operating as normal.

The taxi drivers are protesting against the government's plans to liberalise their sector.

Earlier this week, there were violent clashes with police outside the transport ministry.

  • They work more than you

Graham, "this lot" works more than you (http://stats.oecd.org/Index.aspx?DataSetCode=ANHRS) and gets paid a lot less than you (http://stats.oecd.org/Index.aspx?DataSetCode=AWCOMP) and now they have to bail out the class of people who created this mess. So, next time try not to critisize without researching what is going on and please show some respect to the working people of Greece.

  • Sheer Stupidity!

What sheer stupidity! What better excuse for the Cruise lines to pull out of Greece. It's time this lot realized there's no 'free lunches' and that one has to work for living! Unfortunately, this work ethic prevails through most of the countries in Southern Europe. Good decision on the part of the UK to stay out of the Euro!
