Blackpool looks to zone hen and stag groups

Blackpool is attempting to remodel as the 'British St Tropez', blocking rowdy stag and hen groups from certain areas.

Officials are keen to rebrand the town as a place for 'high spenders', using zoning to keep rowdy groups from family friendly areas.

The changes, set out in the Destination Management Plan for 2015-2017 by the council's tourism arm VisitBlackpool, also wants to ban cheap accommodation.

Dave Daly, who has run the Castle Hotel for four decades and heads the Pubwatch partnership, believes the changes would damage the town's night-time economy.

He told The Daily Star: 'People come here on stag and hen parties because they know they can get dressed up, have a drink and a laugh and not worry about being turned away.

'They are the lifeblood of the town, bringing in millions and creating around 500 jobs, from the girls in the lap dancing bars to the kids washing the glasses."
