Explosion on London tube train declared a terror incident

An explosion in a London tube train this morning has been declared as a terror incident by police.

Parsons Green station on the District Line is closed and armed police, terror police and emergency services are at the scene.

Reports are emerging of commuters suffering facial injuries as a fire tore through the train carriages, and of others being hurt in stampedes as crowds fled the train and station in panic.

Latest reports say 22 people were injured, including a schoolboy.

Pictures and video on social media, purporting to be of the device on the train, show a Lidl carrier bag carrying a flaming white bucket with fairy lights.

Metropolitan police are urging people to avoid the area.

They are asking anyone with images from the scene to upload them to

British Transport Police say the District line had been suspended between Earls Court and Wimbledon and advised train passengers to remain vigilant.

London's Mayor, Sadiq Khan, issued a statement urging people to remain calm and vigilant.

"Our city utterly condemns the hideous individuals who attempt to use terror to harm us and destroy our way of life," he said.

"As London has proven again and again, we will never be intimidated or defeated by terrorism."

An emergency COBRA meeting will be held in Whitehall this afternoon.

  • Terrorism

Obviously our politicians will rattle off the same condemnation of the latest attack but we're not daft, we already know how terrible these attacks are, what we need is more real action and I'm not talking about a few extra armed police, that won't stop them or telling us to be more vigilant, (I'm sure everyone is these days anyway). We, along with the rest of the world collectively, need to address this at the source, whether by diplomacy or if required, by war. Remember, together, the world defeated the Nazis who were a much bigger threat. Sadiq Khan said today "As London has proven again and again, we will never be intimidated or defeated by terrorism." Great words but what exactly does that mean?
