Jet2holidays becomes second largest ATOL holder

Jet2holidays has overtaken Thomas Cook to become the UK's second largest ATOL holder, behind TUI UK.

The tour operator's ATOL licence now covers it for more than 2.9 million passengers, a jump of 29.2% since it renewed its licence a year ago.

Sister company to airline Jet2, it has significantly increased its capacity in recent years on the back of a new Birmingham hub and more flights from London Stansted.

Thomas Cook's ATOL, meanwhile, covers just under 2.4 million, a drop of 2.5% on last year.

TUI UK, the largest ATOL holder, is licenced to carry nearly 5.4 million passengers, a marginal 1% more than a year ago.

Expedia's ATOL pretty much stays the same size at 1.4 million while On the Beach's ATOL has grown by 9.5% to 1.2 million, putting them fourth and fifth in the list respectively.

Figures from the CAA also show a massive increase in passengers for We Love Holidays of nearly 58% to 631,000.

Although the figures don't necessarily equate to actual sales, they give a good indication of the number of passengers a company expects to carry in the next 12 months.
