FCO advises against travel to Jerusalem

The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office is advising against all travel to the Old City of Jerusalem until 6am on Saturday following President Trump's announcement recognising Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

It says the security situation could quickly deteriorate, particularly around the Old City of Jerusalem, as Palestinian factions called for two days of mass protests across the West Bank.

Clashes have already broken out in the Gaza Strip and across the occupied Wesrt Bank during demonstrations against Trump's stance, which has been met with worldwide dismay.

Dozens have been injured and one is in a critical condition. Hundreds of police have been drafted in to deal with outbreaks of violence.

"You should avoid all demonstrations across the West Bank and follow the advice of local police authorities," said the FCO's advice.

The FCO also updated its advice for other countries in the region, including Turkey, Tunisia, Morocco and Qatar, where demonstrations are possible following Trump's announcement.

"You should avoid any demonstrations and follow instructions of the local police authorities," it told visitors.
