British Travel Awards to bring back bronze

The British Travel Awards has decided to reinstate the Bronze Award this year following a meeting of senior travel industry executives to discuss possible changes and additions to the programme.

BTA CEO Lorraine Barnes Burton said further changes will be announced before registrations for this year's awards open on April 2.

"As we move into our 11th year of the consumer-voted British Travel Awards' programme, I thought it might be useful to get some input on the categories/criteria prior to inviting registrations for this year's competition," she said.

"We strive to maintain relevance of the BTA's categories for our trade nominees and of course suitability for the travelling public - our consumer voters. In addition to adding or removing categories to meet travel trends and customer preferences, we speak regularly with many of our nominees to gather opinions and suggestions on how the BTAs should evolve throughout the year.

"This year we thought it might be prudent to get a fresh update and put forward some of those suggestions for the BTAs to a Group whose opinions we particularly value, to ensure the BTAs remain a current and valuable accolade, accurately reflecting industry excellence, whilst retaining the independence and integrity of the organisation.

"The Focus Group roundtable helped us to get clarity on where we need to be with the various categories, entry criteria and relevance of the BTAs for today's travel companies and consumers. "
