Historic Devon hotel changes hands

Devon's Burgh Island Hotel has been acquired by Office Space in Town ('OSiT').

The OSiT-led investment group will take over the iconic Grade II-listed hotel and the island's pub, the Pilchard Inn.

It will also become the new owners of the island, which has long been an important part of Devon's coastline just south of Dartmoor National Park.

It marks a move into the leisure and hotels sector by the serviced office provider.

Retaining its art deco heritage, the hotel will undergo a year-long multi-million pound renovation which will see the addition of a private members club and a luxury spa.

OSiT's clients, who get private member access to its 11 serviced office buildings, will be able to get discounted rates for corporate events at the hotel.

The historic property has welcomed guests including Agatha Christie, the Beatles and Noel Coward.

Giles Fuchs, co-founder and CEO of Office Space in Town, said: "Over the years it has attracted a cultural tapestry of visitors and played a unique part in the country's history.

"The restoration of Burgh Island Hotel to suit modern tastes will be our first project. Once again, The Burgh Island Hotel will be known as it was in the fifties, as 'the best hotel in the UK west of the Ritz'."
