Passenger in wine bottle mid-flight meltdown jailed for two years

A passenger involved in a mid-air brawl brandishing a wine bottle last year has been convicted and jailed for two years.

Joseph Hudek, 23, had pleaded guilty to interfering with a flight crew member and assault on an aircraft with a potential deadly weapon.

Hudek was flying first class on a Delta Air Lines dependent pass from Seattle to China as his mother worked for the airline.

Not long after taking off Hudek suddenly lunged for the exit door shouting 'I want to get out!'

He became violent when flight attendants tried to stop his outburst.

He punched a crew member and hit a passenger with a wine bottle.

Hudek himself was struck on the head with a wine bottle by a flight attendant.

Hudek was eventually restrained by several passengers and crew.

He blamed his bizarre outburst on consuming edible marijuana before the flight.

"After purchasing the edible marijuana, I ate it. I have never had a remotely similar incident in all my times of flying on an airplane," he wrote in an affidavit at an earlier court hearing.
