Travelodge sets sights on cruise port locations

Travelodge has opened its first hotel in Dover and has outlined plans for hotels at the UK's top 10 busiest cruise ports.

The purpose-built, 108-room Travelodge Dover overlooks Dover Castle and is minutes away from Dover's cruise terminal.

It has a Bar Cafe and on-site car-parking and represents a £9 million investment for the landlord Legal & General.

In response to the growing cruise boom, Travelodge said it is looking for a further 10 new hotel sites close to the UK's busiest cruise ports - Edinburgh, Glasgow, Harwich, Hull, Liverpool, Newcastle, Poole, Portsmouth, Southampton and Tilbury.

Tony O'Brien, Travelodge property director, said: "The cruise boom is still underway and predicted to grow from strength to strength; therefore we are getting on board now and looking for ten new hotel sites at UK's growing Ports.

"This expansion represents an investment of £60 million for third party investors and will create around 300 new jobs."
