Strikes and weather disrupt European flights

Flights to parts of France are set to be disrupted this weekend as Air Traffic Controllers go on strike.

Delays and cancellations are expected, particularly at Marseille Provence International Airport and in airports on the island of Corsica.

EasyJet said the strikes could have knock-on effects on other flights.

"Like all airlines, our flights to and from France, as well as those flying in French airspace, could be affected,' it said.

"Also flights that do not operate through France may still be affected as 65% of easyJet flights operate through French air space and may be delayed before arriving for your flight.

"We expect that there could possibly be delays due to the industrial action, therefore we advise all customers to check the status of their flight."

It comes as industrial action by Italy ATC and ground handling staff forced airlines to cancel flights today (Friday).

Rail staff in Italy have also walked out and the disruption is set to continue until Sunday.

Meanwhile, flights at Amsterdam and Frankfurt airports are being disrupted due to low visibility and thunderstorms which are hitting parts of Europe this morning.
