Agents and cruise lines urged to join beach clean-up

Agents and cruise lines are being urged to join in the Great British Beach Clean on two dates in September.

CLIA UK & Ireland is joining the Maritime Conservation Society's event on September 14, 9.30am, in West Wittering, West Sussex, and on September 17, 10.15am, at Formby Freshfield, Lancashire.

"Working to maintain clean oceans and beaches is crucial. No single industry relies more on the splendour of our planet's oceans and seas, nor the pristine beauty of the world's harbours and seaside communities than the cruise industry," said Andy Harmer, CLIA UK and Ireland director.

"We are delighted to be joining The Great British Beach Clean as part of our ongoing sustainability work."

Almost 7,000 people took part in the Great British Beach Clean last September and removed 255,209 pieces of litter from 339 beaches.

The Maritime Conservation Society has been recording this information for more than 25 years and lobbying governments to stop items getting there in the first place.
