Dubai visitors warned UAE 'may be target of missile attacks'

The Foreign Office has issued a new warning about travel to the United Arab Emirates, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi, due to fears that they could be the target of missile attacks.

Numerous missiles have been launched into neighbouring Saudi Arabia from Yemen this year, the vast majority of which have been intercepted and destroyed, including one on Monday.

However, there have been a 'small number' of casualties, including two civilian deaths in Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

The FCO said claims have been made in public media suggesting that there may also be attempts to target missiles at the UAE, which is backing Saudi Arabia in its conflict with Yemen.

"In the event of any incidents, you should monitor local media reports and follow the advice of the local authorities," said the Foreign Office.
More than 1.5 million Britons visit the UAE every year and the 'vast majority' of visits are trouble-free, it added.

However, it is continuing to warn British visitors of the dangers of showing sympathy for Qatar on social media or by any other means of communication, which is an offence in the UAE since the Emirates severed diplomatic relations with the country a year ago. Offenders could be imprisoned or given a 'substantial' fine, it said.

  • No Freedom of Speech in Dubai now

Not only may one be hit by missiles, if one dares to go to hotel reception in Dubai and request to see Al Jazeera on your TV, you could go to prison for "supporting" Qatar. A suggestion , book your clients to Oman instead.
