Footage of baggage handler hurling luggage goes viral

Video footage of a baggage handler at Manchester Airport tossing luggage from the aircraft hold into a trolley has gone viral.

Millions of people have viewed the footage since it was posted yesterday afternoon by passenger Elizabeth Evans, who watched the handler flinging cases, including her own luggage, onto the luggage trolley.

He is seen throwing some items with such force they fly through the back of the trolley on to the floor.

Ms Evans, 28, from Bury, was waiting to disembark her Ryanair flight when she took the video.

Ms Evans' own pink case was one of the ones that was roughly handled and ended up on the ground.

Manchester Airport put the blame firmly on baggage handler Swissport.

In a statement, the airport said: "We're aware of this video and are disappointed to have seen this unacceptable baggage handling. This has been raised with Swissport, the baggage handler in question, directly.

"Baggage is not handled by Manchester Airport, each airline employs their own baggage handler."

The statement hasn't averted criticism of the airport on social media, with one Twitter user saying: "This is absolutely disgusting! How dare you allow people's belongings to be treated like this?"

Swissport has apologised for its employee's behaviour, telling the BBC the footage is 'disappointing'.

Swissport added: "We can confirm we are investigating and will take all steps necessary to ensure this does not happen again."

  • Baggage damage

I recently had a flight from Manchester Airport to Seattle via Kevflavik, Iceland. I didn't see the damage to my case until I arrived at my hotel room in Seattle. It was a brand new, 1st time used American Tourist case. Somehow a piece of the case plastic had managed to have been caught and made a hole in the side of the case. It was a rigid case. No much I could do after having left the airport, and not worth the paperwork/effort for less than £100. Was quite upset!
