Qantas and KLM sign codeshare alliance

Qantas is teaming up with KLM for a long haul codesharing alliance.

The codeshare pact will see enhanced connectivity for customers of both airlines travelling between Australia and Europe via Singapore.

Qantas is placing its code on KLM's Singapore-Amsterdam service, while KLM will offer onward connections from Singapore for its customers travelling to Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney via Qantas.

"This codeshare provides customers with more choice of how they travel between Australia and Europe. It offers our customers another option to get to Amsterdam via our Singapore hub, with more opportunities to earn status credits and Qantas Points," sakid Qantas International's chief executive Alison Webster.

Qantas frequent flyers can earn points and status credits on KLM flights to Amsterdam and receive access to the KLM lounge in Amsterdam.

Points redemption on the codeshare flights is also being looked at.

The codeshare agreement comes into force for ticket sales starting on 1 November, although it is still pending government approvals.
