Let's go fly a kite

Adventure holiday specialists Undiscovered Mountains has introduced a new activity in the Southern French Alps this winter season.

Snowkiting combines snowboarding with kitesurfing, using snow instead of water and either skis or snowboards instead of surfboards.

It claims that skiers or boarders can get the hang of the sport with just a couple of lessons and that anyone from the age of 10 can have a go.

"While advanced snow kiters will typically opt for snowboards, as the boards allow for more flexible movements and greater jumps, the sport itself is not as extreme as kitesurfing, and you don't have to be an expert at the sport to enjoy it," said the company.

"Typically, it requires a lot less wind to move you across the snow than if you were kitesurfing on the water, so even beginners can enjoy it."

The sport can be included as part of an Undiscovered Mountains 1-week multi-activity holiday, which can also include snowboarding, igloo building, husky sledding and more.
