Travel recruitment firms report strong start to 2019

Travel recruitment saw a strong start to the year with a sharp rise in vacancies, candidates and placements.

In fact, C&M Travel Recruitment and C&M Executive Recruitment jointly reported their strongest January for placements since at least 2011, when they began to collate data.

Placements were up by 36% in January 2019 compared to January 2018 while vacancies rose by 12% and candidate numbers were up by 8%.

Although there is always a jump in activity in January compared with December, the difference was particularly high this year.

For example, candidate numbers increased by 131% month-over-month compared to 63% in the same period last year.

Meanwhile, there was a smaller jump in travel salaries, with average salaries in January up 3.67% year-on-year.

Barbara Kolosinska, director at both companies, said: "It's been a strong start to the year with salaries, vacancies and candidate numbers all rising, but what's even better is that more placements were made in January than in any month in 2018.

"February is looking like it will be another very busy and positive month, and while there are significant question marks surrounding the continued uncertainty of Brexit, the early signs indicate that many travel companies are stepping up their recruitment plans in 2019 and are looking to hire the best candidates in the market."
