Thunderstorms expected to trigger New York flight delays

Flights to and from the northeast coast of America are likely to be disrupted by thunderstorms today, prompting some airlines to allow passengers to postpone their trips.

US carriers Delta and American Airlines are giving passengers flying to or from New York City airports the option to travel later in the week.

In a message on its website, Delta said there were likely to be delays in and out of the region late this afternoon and evening.

These might affect JFK, LaGuardia, Newark, Newburgh and White Plains airports, it said.

It is allowing passengers to make a one-time change to their itinerary without incurring a change fee.

American is allowing passengers due to travel to, from or through the above airports and also Stewart Newburgh to postpone their trips up until July 20.
